I wish them the best of luck, but they absolutely need to watch their backs. Government has never taken kindly to any attempts at free energy or breaking their infrastructural monopolies.
Very true. But unfortunately while the energy is free there is a lot of scaling up to have should this work to get the energy and stack billions of these mini Casimir cavities on top of each other.
I'm sorry to say it but...the Casimir devices have not been demonstrated yet, and there is no evidence I could find of this effect even working to produce "free" electricity. I searched far and wide for any paper, or prototype, and couldn't find anything. If anyone has a link to some evidence, ANY evidence, please share it, as this sounds lovely but I'm afraid it's just another "cold fusion" situation until demonstrated otherwise.
You're right. It only comes from the company's claims which I give credence to based on Dr. White's background. Currently they claim to have micro-micro chips producing 30 microwatts with a seeming two year timeline for commercializing them. If that proof of concept happens, I'd definitely trust this a lot more but of course we'll still have to see. There does seem to be some more serious discussion on it here with some people explaining how it would work in a little more detail: https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=62892.0
Yes, very possibly. But I hope and think a state with atomic bombs and little compliance is a state with atomic bombs and no smaller and less destructive tool to use to enforce compliance.
If they use one to take out a single farm or two, they immediately get the wrath of thousands of local groups and warrior bands turning upon them. This isn't sustainable, especially if you can pick up and move underground or into the ocean temporarily with your unlimited power.
A loose confederation of aligned small communities that is geographically dispersed is more resilient than any geographically contiguous nation-state. At least I think the example of the war on terror shows that brute force, let alone nuclear bombs, would be counterproductive.
EMP attacks on your local mini-electric grid would also be a large risk, but I again think they can't be targeted narrowly enough and the weakening of nation states would enable many local warrior bands to acquire such weapons too, leading to new standoffs of mutually assured destruction between surviving states and new, more localized and dispersed warrior bands.
I do need to think a lot more through this scenario, but I still think state power is going to be sufficiently weakened by future technology to carve down on a lot of those downsides of apparent force imbalances.

You've forgotten that the state has atomic bombs as well as the grid. Threats will still be global and not just local.
